What capacity should a UPS12-700MRF string be sized on?
201.4 Ah at the 20-hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell at 25°C, which is C&D's published figure. Distributor listings for this part, ours among them, have long shown 206 Ah. A series string carries one block's amp-hour rating, so the 4.6 Ah difference does not multiply across forty blocks; it comes off every discharge the plant was sized for. Use 201.4 and check the watt column as well.
What does the 700MRF deliver on a five-minute discharge?
1,020.6 watts per cell to 1.75 volts per cell, or 1,117.8 to 1.67, at 77°F. That is 6,124 watts from one block at the 1.75 end point. The short columns are where a front-access high-rate block earns its place, and C&D publishes ten of them for this model from 5 minutes out to 90.
Can two UPS12-700MRF strings run in parallel?
Yes, and C&D is specific about how. Cable each string separately to a common junction point rather than daisy chaining them, give each string its own fuse, breaker or disconnect ahead of that junction, and confirm the open circuit voltages of the two strings are within 1 VDC of each other before you make the parallel connection. That last check is what keeps one string from dumping into the other at closure.
Is the 700MRF covered by C&D's rack installation manual?
Yes, with a caveat about the manual itself. 41-7525 gives its scope twice and the two do not agree: the cover says 26 to 206 ampere-hours, the general information page says 25 through 200. The 700MRF's 201.4 Ah sits inside one and just outside the other. The guide covers numbering, interunit and intertier cabling, the pre-operational checks, the freshening charge and the initial float, and it is the right document for an open-rack install. The 254 Ah UPS12-1000MRF is above both figures, so treat that one as a cabinet-system install and ask for the drawing.
