How to pick the right 6-volt charger
1 · Match the chemistry
Most 6V toy, motorcycle, and classic-car batteries are lead-acid or AGM. A lithium 6V pack needs a charger with a lithium mode. On a NOCO Genius you set the battery type with the mode button.
2 · Charge, maintain, or both
A maintainer keeps a parked battery topped off for months; a smart charger revives a rundown battery and then floats it. If the battery mostly sits, a maintainer is all you need.
3 · Size the amps
Use roughly 10-20% of the battery's amp-hours: 1-2 amps for a small battery, 5-10 amps for a car or deep-cycle. Charging several at once? Pick a multi-bank charger.

Do not use a 12-volt charger on a 6-volt battery. It pushes about 14 volts into a battery that should see about 7, which overcharges it and can cause it to gas, overheat, and fail. Use a 6-volt charger, or a multi-voltage charger switched to 6V mode.

Can I use a 12-volt charger on a 6-volt battery?
No. A 12-volt charger pushes roughly 14 volts into the battery, which badly overcharges a 6-volt battery - it will gas, overheat, and can be permanently damaged. Use a charger set to 6 volts, or a multi-voltage smart charger (like the NOCO Genius line) that you switch to 6V mode. On a NOCO Genius you hold the mode button for a few seconds to select 6V.
What amp charger do I need for a 6-volt battery?
Aim for a charge rate of about 10 to 20 percent of the battery's amp-hour capacity. A small 6V toy, motorcycle, or lawn-equipment battery charges nicely at 1 to 2 amps; a larger deep-cycle or car battery can take 5 to 10 amps for a faster charge. When in doubt, a lower amp rate is always safe, it just takes longer.
How long does it take to charge a 6-volt battery?
A rough estimate is the battery's amp-hours divided by the charger's amps, plus about 20 percent for the final absorption stage, so a 10Ah battery on a 2-amp charger takes roughly six hours. A smart charger stops automatically when the battery is full, so you can leave it connected.
Can one charger handle both 6-volt and 12-volt batteries?
Yes. Most of the chargers on this page are 6V/12V (and some also do 24V), so a single unit can charge a motorcycle, a car, and a ride-on toy. You set the charger to match the battery - on a NOCO Genius you hold the mode button to choose 6V or 12V.
