The Most Expensive Assumption in This Industry

A 12 volt, 100 amp hour battery is a 12 volt, 100 amp hour battery. That assumption is the most expensive one in this industry. Two batteries can share a footprint, use the same terminals, and still be engineered for completely different jobs. One for long cycle life. One to dump enormous current for a few minutes. One to do that in a cabinet that runs hot all summer. Match the voltage, the capacity and the terminal position and you can still be badly wrong.

It is a slow failure, too. The wrong battery in a high-rate application looks healthy on float charge and passes a casual check. Then the load hits it and it does not hold. Or it dies in six to eight months and the manufacturer declines the claim, because it was never rated for that application.

Run this test yourself. A well built battery publishes constant current and constant power discharge tables, so you can see exactly what it delivers at 5 minutes, 15 minutes, an hour. A commodity data sheet gives you a capacity figure and little else, because the detail is not flattering. If the tables are missing, ask why.

High-Tech Battery Solutions opened in Twinsburg, Ohio in 2010, out of a family already in the battery trade. Our founder grew up around the product and started this company at nineteen. He did not learn batteries from a catalog; he learned them installing strings, tearing down systems and hauling loads himself. More than fifteen years on, we ship nationwide from the same town and still answer our own phones.

We Serve Two Very Different Customers

If you need one battery, or a few.
AED and medical devices, mobility and accessibility, powersports, automotive, and desktop or rack UPS cartridges. Tell us the device and we will find the right replacement. Orders over $75 ship free; under that, it is a flat $8. In-stock orders placed before 2 p.m. Eastern go out the same day. You have 30 days to return it.
If you are responsible for power that cannot fail.
Telecom cabinets, UPS strings, switchgear, generator starting, network and data center backup. Front terminal monoblocs, 2 volt cells, high rate and high temperature lines from EnerSys, C&D Technologies, Deka Unigy, CSB, Leoch and NorthStar. This side is quote driven rather than add to cart, because these orders involve freight, lead times, minimum quantities and, often, a part that is no longer made. A price in a shopping cart cannot tell you any of that.

How We Verify a Replacement Before We Sell It

Three things happen before we quote a cross reference. We call the manufacturer. We check the warehouse. We confirm the part is rated for your application. That is why it takes 24 to 48 hours instead of 20 seconds. As our owner puts it: if someone quotes you a price and a lead time in sixty seconds, they have not done any of those three things.

The specification sheet comes with every alternative we propose, for that specific model, so your own engineer can sign off rather than take our word for it. That is a required step in our process, not a courtesy.

It matters. A buyer once ordered replacements that matched the outgoing units on size and voltage but carried 20 to 25 percent less capacity. We caught it only because we recognized the system and called. Installed as ordered, that string would have come up short in an outage, underneath equipment that could not afford it.

Warranty, Stated Honestly

Warranty terms are set by the manufacturer and vary by product line, sometimes by capacity and terminal type within one line. Documented terms across what we sell run from one year to eight. A premium high temperature line can carry eight years; a general purpose unit from the same manufacturer carries one. Both are correct and neither describes the other, which is why we will not advertise a single figure across a catalog.

What we do instead: we tell you the term that applies to the exact part you are buying, confirm it in writing with your quote, and hold the manufacturer's warranty document on file so the number can be checked rather than believed. Where a battery has no manufacturer backed term, it carries a one year free replacement warranty directly through us.

One distinction we will always draw, because it is the most common way buyers are misled: design life is not warranty. A ten year design life with a four year warranty is a normal, honest product. Design life is what the manufacturer engineered under ideal conditions. Warranty is what they will replace.

Getting It To You Intact

Small batteries move by parcel at live carrier rates with no markup. Larger orders go by freight, which is where battery orders go wrong, so we are particular about it. Pallets are banded with heavy plastic, never steel, because steel across battery terminals is a short circuit. Every skid is checked by a second person against the packing slip.

We run about one freight damage claim a quarter. When it happens we file with the carrier ourselves and get a replacement moving, rather than leaving you to argue with a freight company. Note damage on the bill of lading before the driver leaves and we can usually ship a replacement the next day. Two honest limits: no next day air on freight, expedited tops out at two day service, and a delivery with no dock or forklift needs a liftgate, which costs extra.

What We Will Not Do

We do not design battery systems from scratch for new installations. We are a replacement and cross reference business, and if you are building something new you want an engineering firm first.

We do not yet offer lithium conversions with battery management systems for critical power. The technology is moving quickly enough that we do not think it is a good idea for us to offer it yet, and we would rather say so than improvise.

And we do not pretend a discontinued battery is still available. When a line is genuinely gone, as GNB's Marathon telecom series has been since Exide's North American industrial business was sold in 2020, the honest answer is that the original cannot be sourced by us or by anyone. The useful answer is a verified replacement with the specification sheet to prove it fits.
