How many UPS12-100MR blocks make a 48V string?
Four. Each unit is a nominal 12V built from six cells, so four in series give 48V, ten give 120V and twenty give 240V. C&D's own installation guide puts typical system voltages between 12 and 480 VDC, with 72 to 480 VDC the usual data center UPS range. Tell a specialist the string voltage and the runtime you need and the block count comes off the published power table rather than an estimate.
What torque do the 10-32 UNF terminals take?
40 in-lbs (4.5 N-m), from C&D's additional-data table for this model. Under-torque shows up first as a rising ohmic reading at the connection and only later as heat. Before the cables go on, brush the lead contact faces with a brass bristle brush and coat them with an antioxidant grease such as NO-OX-ID or NCP-2, which is what C&D's rack installation guide calls for.
Can the UPS12-100MR be mounted on its side?
Yes. C&D states the High Rate Max blocks can be operated in any orientation, and recommends upright, side or end mounting. Leave half an inch between units on the shelf so the interunit cables line up with the adjacent terminals and air can move between the cases. In a sealed enclosure, confirm the cabinet and the room are ventilated.
How long can a UPS12-100MR sit before it needs a charge?
Up to six months at 77°F (25°C) before a freshening charge is required. Stored warmer than that, it needs recharging sooner. C&D covers the detail in brochure 41-7272 on self-discharge and inventory control, and the installation guide sets the freshening charge at 2.4 volts per cell average for 24 hours. If the batteries have been on a shelf for a while, say so on the quote request and a specialist notes the date code.
