Samlex PSR-1200-48 - 1200W Pure Sine Wave Rack Mount Inverter with Transfer Relay, 48V

A rack UPS makes you buy, monitor, and replace a second set of batteries. Your 48 volt plant already does that job. The Samlex PSR-1200-48 converts 48VDC to 120VAC at 1200 watts continuous, using the site's existing battery string as its energy reserve. Grid power flows through the built-in transfer relay until it drops; then the load rides the plant for as many amp-hours as you have floating.

Warranty

Warranty. Samlex America warrants the PSR-1200-48 for 2 years. Full terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

Backup Without a Second Battery Bank

The plant is the UPS
Runtime is set by your battery string, not by a sealed tray of cells on a replacement schedule. Add amp-hours and the backup window grows with them.
Shallow 1U chassis
15.24 inches deep and 1.73 inches tall, it fits two-post relay racks and crowded wall cabinets where a full-depth unit will not.
Sips on standby
No-load draw is under 0.5 amps at 48 volts, so leaving it in-circuit around the clock costs the plant almost nothing.
  • Pure sine wave output, under 2% THD; the 16 A transfer relay switches in under 8 ms.
  • Load Safe transfer on brownout - the load moves to the inverter before a sag becomes an equipment reset.
  • Ethernet web monitoring, SNMP traps and e-mail notification; configuration from the front panel, USB, or RS-232C.
  • SPDT alarm contacts and wired ENB on/off terminals (contact closure or 20 to 60 VDC signal).
  • Detachable C13 AC input cord supplied; NEMA 5-20R duplex output.
  • ETL listed to UL 62368-1 and CSA C22.2 No. 62368-1; FCC Part 15(B) Class B.

Where This Inverter Is Used

  • 48V telecom and radio sites - one AC circuit for the equipment the DC plant cannot feed directly.
  • 48V solar and off-grid systems - household-quality AC from the bank, with generator input through the relay.
  • Emergency backup for comms equipment - the shelf stays up as long as the plant holds.

Ordering

Voltage check. Single-carton parcel shipment. Running a 24 volt plant instead? The PSR-1200-24 is the same 1U inverter for that bus. For rollouts across sites, send quantities and ZIPs and a battery specialist will return a written quote in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a rack mount UPS?

A UPS carries its own small battery tray, which means minutes of runtime and a recurring replacement cost. The PSR-1200-48 has no internal batteries: it inverts from the 48V plant you already maintain, so runtime is whatever your string holds and there is nothing inside to age out.

How much load can it carry?

1200 watts continuous on the inverter, with a 2000 watt surge allowance for startup, and the bypass path carries the same 1200 watts of grid power. Keep the steady total under 1200 watts in either mode.

Do I need the PSR-2200-48 instead?

Only if the load list outgrows 1200 watts. The 2200 brings a 30 amp relay and a 4000 watt surge budget, but it takes 2U of rack and costs more; a radio shelf plus a network stack rarely needs it.

What does the DC hookup look like?

Battery conductors land in set-screw terminals with 7/16 inch cable holes, next to a dedicated chassis ground lug. Inside, four 10 amp blade fuses (40 amps total) protect the input; follow the manual's conductor sizing and put a fuse at the battery end of the run.
