Leoch XP12-540FR Battery - 12V 540 W per Cell High Rate AGM, 155Ah, M6

The XP12-540FR is the top rating in Leoch's XP ultra high rate range: 540 watts per cell over 15 minutes to 1.67 volts per cell, about 3,240 watts from the 12 volt block, with 155 Ah at the 20-hour rate. It shares the tall 335 by 172 by 278 mm case (13.2 by 6.77 by 10.9 inches) with the XP12-490FR and weighs 42.4 kg (93.5 lbs). The FR in the part number is the UL 94 V-0 flame retardant case build. The constant power table gives 852 watts per cell at the 5-minute point, the highest figure in the range, on an internal resistance of about 3.8 milliohms. Design life is 12 years at 25°C on float. This is the block for the large three-phase UPS string that is sized to the last minute of its runtime, and it is quoted in sets of four or more.

Warranty

Warranty. Leoch warrants the XP line for 36 months in UPS service. Design life is a separate figure: 12 years at 25°C (77°F) on float, from the XP12-540 datasheet, and it is not a warranty period. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

The Top of the XP Range

540 watts per cell at 15 minutes
About 3,240 watts from one block to 1.67 volts per cell, and 852 watts per cell at the 5-minute point, the shape of a discharge that bridges to a generator.
155 Ah in the XP12-490FR case
The same 335 by 172 by 278 mm footprint and M6 insert as the 490, with about 10 percent more power and capacity, so an existing 490 shelf takes it with no rework.
UL 94 V-0 case
The FR build. Leoch lists UL 94 HB as the standard XP case and V-0 as the option; this page sells the V-0 option that data center and hospital specifications call for.
  • 466.9 amps for 5 minutes - to 1.67 volts per cell, with 289.1 amps at 15 minutes, 181.8 amps at 30 minutes and 105.6 amps for a full hour.
  • 155 Ah at the 20-hour rate - to 1.80 volts per cell at 25°C, 7.75 amps for 20 hours, for the rare site that runs it as a long-duration reserve.
  • 2,499 amps short-circuit current - at approximately 3.8 milliohms internal resistance, fully charged, for DC-side protection coordination.
  • Virgin lead plates, copper alloy inserts - low resistance at the plates and the posts, so the voltage holds under load instead of sagging into the inverter's cutoff.
  • 100 percent capacity tested - every XP block is discharge tested and matched on voltage and internal resistance before it leaves the plant.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • Large three-phase UPS strings - the data center and hospital systems where 40 blocks in series carry a load measured in hundreds of kilowatts for the minutes before the generator takes over.
  • Generator-backed plants sized to the minute - sites whose runtime target leaves no margin at 490 watts per cell, where the extra 50 watts per cell buys the safety factor.
  • Telecommunications and emergency DC plants - Leoch's XP application list covers both: the reserve behind switching equipment and control power in occupied buildings, where the V-0 case rating is specified.

Ordering and Freight

Sold in a minimum of four units. Four XP12-540FR come to about 374 lbs on a pallet and ship by LTL freight; a residential or limited-access address adds $100 for the liftgate and access charge the carrier passes through. Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date. A specialist confirms availability, lead time, volume pricing and freight in writing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What warranty applies, and is the 12-year figure part of it?

Leoch warrants the XP line for 36 months in UPS service. The 12 years is design life, Leoch's estimate of float service at 25°C from the XP12-540 datasheet, and it carries no replacement commitment. Both figures appear on this page, always labeled, because a listing that runs them together is how a buyer ends up believing in a 12-year warranty. The term is confirmed in writing with your quote.

Why is the short-circuit current lower than the XP12-490FR's?

Because the two figures come from different published tests, not because the 540 is the weaker battery. Leoch's XP12-540 sheet gives 2,499 amps and the XP12-490 sheet gives 3,264 amps, both at about 3.8 milliohms. Every other row of the tables runs the other way: the 540 delivers 466.9 amps for 5 minutes against 426.0, and 540 watts per cell at 15 minutes against 490. Use the sheet's short-circuit figure for the block you install when you coordinate the DC-side protection, and size the runtime on the constant power table.

Can I put XP12-540FR blocks into an XP12-490FR string?

Not in the same string. The cases and terminals are identical, so the blocks fit, but the two ratings have different plates and will not share load or age evenly, so the weaker rating sets the string's runtime and the stronger one works harder than it should. Replace a whole string with the 540 if you want the upgrade, and keep the good 490 survivors as spares for their own strings. If one 490 block has failed early inside the warranty period, the claim path is the right route rather than a substitution.

What does the 540 in XP12-540FR stand for?

Watts per cell over a 15-minute discharge to 1.67 volts per cell at 25°C. Leoch names every XP part by this rating rather than by amp hours because the range exists for UPS duty, and a UPS is sized on power over minutes. Six cells make about 3,240 watts from one block for 15 minutes; a 40-block string of XP12-540FR supports about 130 kilowatts at the DC bus for that quarter hour. The 155 Ah figure, at the 20-hour rate, is on the sheet as well, and it is the number to use only if the block is asked to run a long, light load.

Same case, one rating down: Leoch XP12-490FR490 watts per cell and 142 Ah on the identical 335 by 172 by 278 mm footprint at 93.9 lbs.
Sizing a full XP12-540FR string?

Send the UPS model, the DC bus load and runtime target, the quantity and your delivery ZIP. A specialist confirms the string count against the constant power table, checks the M6 hardware, and quotes the set with lead time and freight in writing.
