Where This Battery Is Used

What warranty applies, and is the 12-year figure part of it?
Leoch warrants the XP line for 36 months in UPS service. The 12 years is design life, Leoch's estimate of float service at 25°C from the XP12-490 datasheet, and it carries no replacement commitment. Both figures appear on this page, always labeled, because a listing that runs them together is how a buyer ends up believing in a 12-year warranty. The term is confirmed in writing with your quote.
XP12-490FR or XP12-540FR: they look identical.
They are, on the outside. Both stand on the same 335 by 172 by 278 mm case with the same M6 insert, and the weights are within a quarter of a pound of each other. The difference is inside: the XP12-540FR is plated for 540 watts per cell and 155 Ah against 490 watts and 142 Ah here, about 10 percent more of both. If your UPS runtime table calls for the 490 rating, this is the part; if the string is marginal at 490, the 540 goes into the same shelf with no rework. Either way, do not mix the two in one string.
Can the XP12-490FR replace the XP12-400FR in my cabinet?
Only if the shelf pitch takes it. The XP12-490FR is 278 mm (10.9 inches) tall against 216 mm (8.50 inches) for the XP12-400FR, about 2.5 inches more, and the footprint grows from 325.5 by 170 mm to 335 by 172. If the cabinet clears that height, the step from 400 to 490 watts per cell runs the same load roughly 20 percent longer. If it was shelved for the 8.5 inch block, stay with the XP12-400FR and add runtime with a second string.
How long can it sit in stores before installation?
Leoch's XP sheet puts self discharge at 3 percent per month or less at 25°C, and the storage temperature range at -15°C to 40°C. Check the open circuit voltage on receipt and log it, then check again at intervals, and give the block a freshening charge before it is installed if it has sat for months or if the voltage has fallen. Warm storage shortens the interval. A block that has sat past its limit without a charge is a maintenance question rather than a warranty one, so if the install date is uncertain, ask the specialist to put a commissioning charge recommendation on the quote.
Send the shelf height, the UPS model and the quantity. A specialist confirms the fit against the 278 mm total height, checks the M6 hardware, and quotes the set with lead time and freight in writing.
