What does the 300 in XP12-300FR mean?
Watts per cell over a 15-minute discharge to 1.67 volts per cell. It is not an amp-hour figure. A 12-volt battery has six cells, so one XP12-300FR supports about 1,800 watts for 15 minutes to that end voltage. UPS strings are sized on this number because the job is minutes of full power, not hours of trickle.
What does the FR suffix mean?
The flame-retardant case build: the ABS case and covers are rated UL 94 V-0. Facility specifications for occupied buildings, data centers and telecom rooms commonly require the rating, and this page sells the FR build.
Why does an 82 Ah battery replace units labeled with bigger numbers?
Because high-rate batteries are bought for their 15-minute power, not their 20-hour capacity. Two batteries with the same amp-hour label can differ sharply in how much of it they deliver in 15 minutes. How fast does it recharge after a discharge?
Recharge time depends on your charger's current limit and the depth of the discharge, so we do not quote a single figure. As a working rule, a UPS string is back in the high nineties of capacity after a day on the rectifier's normal recharge setting.
