Leoch XP12-400FR Battery - 12V 400 W per Cell High Rate AGM, 101.6Ah, M6

The XP12-400FR is the first of Leoch's large-format XP blocks: 400 watts per cell over 15 minutes to 1.67 volts per cell, about 2,400 watts from the 12 volt battery, with 101.6 Ah at the 20-hour rate. The case is 325.5 by 170 mm and 216 mm to the top of the M6 terminals (12.8 by 6.69 by 8.50 inches) at 31.6 kg (69.7 lbs), the low 8.5 inch profile that fits a standard UPS battery cabinet shelf. The FR in the part number is the UL 94 V-0 flame retardant case build. The internal resistance is about 3.6 milliohms, which is why the 5-minute row of the discharge table reaches 391.3 amps, and the design life is 12 years at 25°C on float. Quoted in sets of four or more.

Warranty

Warranty. Leoch warrants the XP line for 36 months in UPS service. Design life is a separate figure: 12 years at 25°C (77°F) on float, from the XP12-400 datasheet, and it is not a warranty period. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

The Low-Profile Block for Three-Phase UPS

400 watts per cell at 15 minutes
About 2,400 watts from one block to 1.67 volts per cell, and 731.1 watts per cell at the 5-minute point where a generator-backed plant does its bridging.
8.50 inches tall
The 216 mm total height that a standard battery cabinet shelf pitch takes. The XP12-490FR and XP12-540FR in the next size up stand 278 mm and need the taller shelf.
UL 94 V-0 case
The FR build. Leoch lists UL 94 HB as the standard XP case and V-0 as the option; this page sells the V-0 option that data center and hospital specifications call for.
  • 391.3 amps for 5 minutes - to 1.67 volts per cell, with 222.6 amps at 15 minutes, 129.4 amps at 30 minutes and 69.5 amps for a full hour.
  • 101.6 Ah at the 20-hour rate - to 1.80 volts per cell at 25°C, 5.08 amps for 20 hours, for the rare site that runs it as a long-duration reserve.
  • 2,304 amps short-circuit current - at approximately 3.6 milliohms internal resistance, fully charged, for DC-side protection coordination.
  • Virgin lead plates, copper alloy inserts - low resistance at the plates and the posts, so the voltage holds under load instead of sagging into the inverter's cutoff.
  • 100 percent capacity tested - every XP block is discharge tested and matched on voltage and internal resistance before it leaves the plant.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • Three-phase UPS battery cabinets - the 20 to 100 kVA data center and hospital systems whose cabinets are shelved for a 12.8 by 6.7 inch block under 8.5 inches tall.
  • Generator-backed plants - sites where the string only carries the load until the set is on line, and the 5-minute figure of 391 amps is the one that matters.
  • Emergency power supply and switchgear - the DC reserve behind breaker tripping and control power in industrial plants, another entry on Leoch's XP application list.

Ordering and Freight

Sold in a minimum of four units. Four XP12-400FR come to about 280 lbs on a pallet and ship by LTL freight; a residential or limited-access address adds $100 for the liftgate and access charge the carrier passes through. Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date. A specialist confirms availability, lead time, volume pricing and freight in writing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What warranty applies, and is the 12-year figure part of it?

Leoch warrants the XP line for 36 months in UPS service. The 12 years is design life, Leoch's estimate of float service at 25°C from the XP12-400 datasheet, and it carries no replacement commitment. Both figures appear on this page, always labeled, because a listing that runs them together is how a buyer ends up believing in a 12-year warranty. The term is confirmed in writing with your quote.

What does the 400 in XP12-400FR stand for?

Watts per cell over a 15-minute discharge to 1.67 volts per cell at 25°C. Leoch names every XP part by this rating rather than by amp hours because the range exists for UPS duty, and a UPS is sized on power over minutes. Six cells make about 2,400 watts from one block for 15 minutes. The 101.6 Ah figure, at the 20-hour rate, is on the sheet as well, and it is the number to use only if the block is asked to run a long, light load.

XP12-400FR or XP12-490FR: which one?

Measure the shelf pitch first. The XP12-400FR stands 216 mm (8.50 inches) on a 325.5 by 170 mm footprint; the XP12-490FR stands 278 mm (10.9 inches) on 335 by 172 mm, so it needs about 2.5 inches more height and a fraction more length and width. If the cabinet takes the taller block, the step from 400 to 490 watts per cell runs the same load roughly 20 percent longer at 42.6 kg per block rather than 31.6. If the shelves were set for an 8.5 inch battery, the XP12-400FR is the correct answer, and more runtime then comes from adding strings rather than height.

What charger settings does the XP12-400FR want?

Float at 2.25 to 2.30 volts per cell, which is 13.5 to 13.8 volts on the block at 25°C, compensated at -3 millivolts per cell per degree. Equalization, where the charger and the site practice call for it, runs at 2.30 to 2.40 volts per cell at -4 millivolts per cell per degree. Charge current is capped at 0.25C, about 25.4 amps for this 101.6 Ah block. Most three-phase UPS rectifiers sit inside these figures already; the setting to verify is the float voltage, because a charger left at a flooded-cell float will overcharge an AGM string over the years.

Next rating up: Leoch XP12-490FR490 watts per cell and 142 Ah in the taller 335 by 172 by 278 mm case at 93.9 lbs, same M6 insert.
Sizing the XP12-400FR into a battery cabinet?

Send the UPS model, the shelf pitch, the quantity and your delivery ZIP. A specialist confirms the 8.50 inch height clears, checks the M6 hardware against your interconnects, and quotes the set with lead time and freight in writing.
