EnerSys DataSafe 12HX505-FR Battery - 12V 119Ah High Rate VRLA
Design Life and Warranty
Built for the 15-Minute Rate
- Constant-power output at 1.67 VPC: 877 W at 5 min, 653 W at 10 min, 506 W at 15 min, 301 W at 30 min, 173 W at 60 min - size the string against the duration you actually need to cover.
- Torque M6 terminals to 60 in-lbs (6.8 Nm) plus or minus 5% - under-torque runs hot at the post, over-torque strips the brass insert, and both show up as a failed load test rather than an obvious fault.

Where This Battery Is Used
- UPS strings in data centers and server rooms - the 15-minute ride-through that carries the load to generator.
- Telecom and switching equipment - central office and cabinet standby where the rectifier floats the string.
- Emergency and egress lighting - code-inspected systems that get load-tested on a schedule.
- Switchgear and process control - plant infrastructure where an unplanned stop costs more than the battery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 12HX505 the same battery as the 12HX505-FR?
Yes. The FR suffix denotes the flame-retardant case, and it is how EnerSys catalogues this unit. You will see it written both ways, and as Data Safe as two words, across parts lists and specification sheets. All of them point at this battery.
Why does the warranty say 4 years when the design life is 10?
Design life is EnerSys's engineering estimate of service under good float conditions. The warranty is the period they will replace a failed unit. Both figures are real and they are not interchangeable, which is worth knowing because this category has a habit of publishing the design life as though it were the warranty term.
How do I size a string with the power table rather than amp hours?
Work backwards from the load. Divide your total load in watts by the number of cells in the string to get watts per cell, then read the table for the duration you need to cover. At 1.67 VPC this battery gives 506 W per cell for 15 minutes and 301 W for 30. Send us the load and the runtime and we will check the arithmetic before you order.
Can I mount it on its side?
Yes. Horizontal, vertical and side mounting are all approved with full performance and safety specs maintained, thanks to the compression grommet seal. That flexibility is usually what decides whether an existing cabinet can take this battery.
How long can it sit before installation?
Up to 6 months at 77°F before it needs a freshening charge, and less if it is stored warmer. If a unit has been on a shelf longer than that, charge it before it goes into service rather than after.
Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date, or the load and runtime if you are sizing from scratch. A specialist confirms fit, lead time and freight in writing, with no obligation to buy.
