What does a 300 amp draw demand from the installation?

The shortest possible run of 4/0 cable, a properly rated external fuse at the battery, and clean torqued connections on the M9 terminals. Samlex's DC-3500-KIT 400 amp installation kit is the matched package. Undersized cable at this current loses voltage and, worse, builds heat.

What battery capacity makes 3000 watts usable?

Think in hundreds of amp hours: a 300Ah bank sustains full output for roughly half an hour to 50 percent discharge, and 600Ah doubles that. If your loads average 1000 watts rather than 3000, the same banks stretch three times as far.

Should I be on 24 volts instead at this power level?

If the system already exists at 12 volts, no, this inverter is built for exactly that. If you are starting fresh and can choose, higher DC voltage means thinner cable and smaller fuses for the same watts, and we will tell you so before you buy.
