Frequently Asked Questions
PST-150-12 or PST-300-12: which small Samlex?
The PST-300-12 doubles the continuous rating, carries a 500 watt surge allowance and adds a wired remote input. The PST-150-12 is smaller, lighter and costs less. Both arrive with the same two DC cables, so the deciding question is simple: do your loads ever pass 150 watts?
What can 150 watts actually power?
Chargers, mostly, and that is the point: a 90 watt laptop brick and a phone charger together, camera batteries, an LED work light. Nothing with a heating element or a motor; those belong on the 600 watt class and up.
Are the outlets ground-fault protected?
Yes. The inverter shuts down on a detected ground fault through its outlets. Use grounded three-prong (NEMA 5-15P) cords with it so that protection can do its job.
Will it flatten my battery if I leave it connected?
Not quickly: idle draw is under half an amp, and a low-voltage alarm at 10.5 volts with shutdown at 10 volts guards the battery from a deep pull-down. Half an amp still adds up over days of sitting, so switch it off when the vehicle is parked long-term.
