Leoch PLX12-500 Battery - 12V 125Ah Pure Lead High Rate AGM, M6

The PLX12-500 is the entry point to Leoch's tall PLX case: 500 watts per cell over 15 minutes to 1.67 volts per cell, 125 Ah at the 10-hour rate, 340.9 by 170 mm with a total height of 275.7 mm, 41.7 kg (91.9 lbs). Compared with the PLX12-420 in the shorter case it adds 60 mm of height, 25 Ah and 80 watts per cell on the same floor area. Thin pure lead plates hold the internal resistance to about 3.6 milliohms and push the short-circuit current to 2,750 amps, and Leoch rates the design life at 15 years at 25°C on float service. For a UPS string that needs more runtime than the PLX12-420 delivers and has the vertical clearance to take it, this is the block, quoted in sets of four or more.

Warranty

Warranty. 60 months from Leoch, full replacement, on the PLX line. Design life is not the warranty: Leoch rates it separately at 15 years at 25°C (77°F) on float service, from the PLX12-500 datasheet. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

More Runtime on the Same Floor Space

125 Ah on a 340.9 by 170 mm footprint
The same footprint as the PLX12-420 with 25 percent more capacity, bought with 60 mm of extra height rather than extra floor.
870 watts per cell for 5 minutes
The constant power table gives 870.5 watts per cell at 5 minutes and 500 at 15, the shape of a UPS discharge that bridges to a generator.
Thin plate, fast recharge
Leoch allows a charge current up to 0.3C, 37.5 amps for this block, so a string recovers from an outage in hours rather than a day.
  • 500 watts per cell at 15 minutes - 3,000 watts from one 12 volt battery to 1.67 volts per cell, the rating Leoch names the part for.
  • 476 amps for 5 minutes - to 1.67 volts per cell, with 267.1 amps at 15 minutes and 96.7 amps for a full hour.
  • 125 Ah at the 10-hour rate - to 1.80 volts per cell, and 6.51 amps for 20 hours, for the rare site that runs this block as a long-duration reserve.
  • 2,750 amps short-circuit current - at about 3.6 milliohms internal resistance, fully charged at 25°C.
  • Float at 2.27 volts per cell - 13.62 volts per battery at 25°C, compensated at -3 millivolts per cell per degree.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • Mid-size UPS strings - the 20 to 80 kVA systems in server rooms, clinics and campus buildings that need more than a quarter hour from a string without going to the largest block.
  • Generator-backed sites - plants where the battery only has to carry the load until the set is on line, and the 5-minute figure of 476 amps is the one that matters.
  • Power tool and starting duty - Leoch lists electric starting and power tools among the PLX applications, both short heavy pulls that suit a pure lead plate.

Ordering and Freight

The minimum order is four units and a set weighs about 370 lbs, so it moves on a pallet by LTL carrier. Delivery to a residential or limited-access address adds $100 for the liftgate and access charge the carrier passes through. Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date, and a specialist returns availability, lead time, volume pricing and freight in writing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Leoch cover, and for how long?

Leoch warrants the PLX12-500 for 60 months, full replacement. That is the warranty. The datasheet also publishes a design life of 15 years at 25°C on float, which is an engineering estimate of service life under ideal conditions and carries no replacement commitment. The two figures are kept in separate sentences on this page for that reason. Details of the term, including how a claim is handled, are confirmed in writing with your quote rather than summarized here.

Should I buy the PLX12-500 or the PLX12-420?

Measure the clearance above the tray first. Both parts stand on the same 340.9 by 170 mm footprint with M6 terminals, but the PLX12-500 is 275.7 mm tall against 215.7 mm for the PLX12-420, a difference of 60 mm. If the height fits, the PLX12-500 gives 500 watts per cell and 125 Ah against 420 watts and 100 Ah, so a string of the same count runs the same load about 20 percent longer, at 41.7 kg per block rather than 33.5. If the shelf pitch was set for the shorter part, the PLX12-420 is the correct answer, and extra runtime then comes from adding strings rather than height.

How long can it sit in stores before installation?

Leoch's sheet allows up to 24 months of storage at 25°C, shorter at higher temperatures. Two conditions apply: the battery must receive a freshening charge when its open circuit voltage approaches 2.10 volts per cell (about 12.6 volts on the block) or when the storage limit is reached, whichever comes first. Check the voltage on receipt and log it, then check again at six-month intervals. A block that has sat past its limit without a charge becomes a maintenance question rather than a warranty one, and the quote can include a commissioning charge recommendation if the install date is uncertain.

What charger settings does the PLX12-500 want?

Float at 2.27 volts per cell plus or minus 0.02, which is 13.62 volts on a 12 volt block at 25°C, with temperature compensation of -3 millivolts per cell per degree. Equalization, where the charger and the site practice call for it, runs at 2.35 to 2.40 volts per cell at -4 millivolts per cell per degree. Charge current is capped at 0.3C, or 37.5 amps for this 125 Ah block. Most UPS chargers already sit inside these figures; the setting to verify is the float voltage, because a charger left at a flooded-cell float will overcharge an AGM string over years.

Same case, next rating up: Leoch PLX12-540540 watts per cell and 135 Ah at 43.5 kg on the identical 340.9 by 170 by 275.7 mm footprint.
Not sure the PLX12-500 clears your shelf?

Send the shelf height, the UPS model and the quantity. A specialist confirms the fit against the 275.7 mm total height, checks the terminal hardware, and quotes the set with lead time and freight in writing.
