CSB XTV12800 Battery - 12V 80Ah Extreme Temperature AGM, Group 24

The XTV12800 is the first of three XTV blocks that share an 800 amp maximum discharge rating, and the smallest of them. It is 80.0 amp hours at the 20 hour rate in a group 24 case, 56.20 lbs, on I2 alloy inserts taking M6 bolts, and it delivers 1,618 watts per battery over 15 minutes to 1.67 volts per cell. Above it the XTV121000 and XTV121100 carry the same 800 amp ceiling with more capacity behind it, which tells you the figure is a terminal and plate-group limit rather than a measure of size. This block is built in Taiwan with a four year term, rated to discharge from -20°C to 50°C like every XTV part, and carries the range's 12 year design life at 25°C. It is the size a 48 volt outdoor string reaches when a four hour hold has to survive a winter night.

Warranty

Warranty. CSB gives 4 years on the XTV parts built in Taiwan, and this is one of them. Design life is a separate figure: up to 12 years in standby service at 25°C (77°F), and greater than 12 years on the Eurobat 20°C basis. Country of origin is Taiwan. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

Where 800 Amps Starts

800 amps for 5 seconds
The discharge ceiling shared with the 100 Ah and 110 Ah blocks above it, set by the I2 terminal and plate group.
1,618 watts per battery at 15 minutes
To 1.67 volts per cell from the CSB series tables, with 54.2 amps sustained over a full hour.
Group 24 case
10.28 by 6.63 by 8.41 inches, a common tray size that this block fills with 80 Ah rated for -20°C.
  • 80.0 Ah at the 20 hour rate - to 1.75 volts per cell at 25°C, matching the CSB price list to the decimal, with 74.2 Ah at the 8 hour rate.
  • 1,917 amps short circuit current - for 5 seconds, the figure a DC protection study needs before a string is energized.
  • 24 amps maximum charge current - a recharge ceiling that a small cabinet charger will not reach, so recovery time is set by the charger rather than the battery.
  • Approximately 4.70 milliohms internal resistance - the day-one baseline for a conductance program, and half a milliohm below the 22NF block.
  • Made to order - a non-stock part on the CSB price list; the lead time is the factory's and we quote it, not a stock date.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • 48 volt outdoor telecom strings - four blocks carrying a macro or micro site through a multi-hour outage in an unconditioned cabinet.
  • Off-grid and solar-hybrid monitoring - float service with periodic deep discharge, where the temperature rating and the 12 year design life both earn their cost.
  • Utility substation and switchgear backup - outdoor control houses where a group 24 tray is already on the drawing.

Ordering and Freight

At 56.20 lbs a single block can go by parcel carrier but a string of four palletizes to LTL as a matter of course, where a residential or limited-access delivery adds $100 for the liftgate and access charge the carrier passes through. CSB builds this part to order in Taiwan; the lead time is the factory's and it is quoted rather than assumed. Tell a specialist the string count, the voltage and when the site needs it, and pricing, lead time and freight come back in writing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do three different sizes share an 800 amp discharge limit?

Because the limit lives at the terminal. The XTV12800, XTV121000 and XTV121100 all carry I2 alloy inserts on M6 bolts and all publish 800 amps for 5 seconds. The plate groups differ, which is why the short circuit figures climb from 1,917 amps here to 2,258 and 2,648 above, and why internal resistance falls from 4.70 milliohms to 4.10 and 3.60. Use 800 amps to check inrush on the load. Use the short circuit figure to size the protection. Do not use either to compare battery capacity.

How long will this hold a 48 volt load?

The datasheet answers in amps and watts per battery over time. At 1.67 volts per cell this block sustains 54.2 amps for one hour, 14.2 amps for five hours, and 7.75 amps for ten. A 48 volt string of four delivers those same currents at four times the voltage, so a 650 watt load at 48 volts draws about 13.5 amps and sits close to the five hour line. Work from the current the load draws, not from the amp hour badge, and leave margin for the cold end of the range where capacity falls.

Is 24 amps of charge current a problem for a small cabinet charger?

The opposite. It is a ceiling, and most outdoor cabinet rectifiers will not approach it, so the battery accepts whatever the charger can give. The consequence is that recovery time after a deep discharge is set by the charger's output rather than by the battery. A 10 amp charger will take the better part of a day to bring an 80 Ah block back from a full discharge. Plan the recovery window around the charger's output rather than the datasheet's ceiling.

Why is the 8 hour rating 74.2 Ah when the badge says 80?

Because the badge is the 20 hour figure. Lead acid capacity depends on how fast you take it out: at the 20 hour rate this block delivers 80.0 Ah to 1.75 volts per cell, at the 8 hour rate 74.2 Ah, and at one hour it sustains 54.2 amps, which is about 54 Ah. A four hour outdoor hold sits between the last two. When a runtime calculation uses 80 Ah for a four hour discharge it overstates the result by roughly a fifth, and on a cabinet that has to make it to morning that fifth is the difference. Size from the discharge table at the rate the load draws.

Same terminal, more capacity: CSB XTV121000100 Ah at the 20 hour rate in a group 27 case, on the same I2 insert and the same 800 amp ceiling.
Sizing an outdoor 48 volt string?

Give a specialist the load in watts, the hold time and the coldest ambient on record at the site. The 80, 100 and 110 Ah blocks share a terminal and a ceiling and differ on runtime, and that calculation picks between them.
