CSB XTV 1272F2 12V 7.2AH AGM High Temperature Battery for Deep Cycle Applications
CSB XTV 1272F2 12V 7.2AH AGM High Temperature Battery for Deep Cycle Applications
CSB XTV1272F2 Battery - 12V 7.2Ah Extreme Temperature AGM, F2
Warranty
Built for the Box Outside
- 7.20 Ah at the 20 hour rate - to 1.75 volts per cell at 25°C, with 6.72 Ah at the 8 hour rate. The XTV badge is the 20 hour capacity itself, not a watt figure.
- 148 watts per battery at 15 minutes - to 1.67 volts per cell, from the CSB series discharge tables. The per-part datasheet starts its power table at 30 minutes.
- 130 amps maximum discharge for 5 seconds - with 305 amps of short circuit current and an internal resistance of approximately 20.40 milliohms.
- 2.16 amps maximum charge current - a recharge ceiling sized for a small float charger, which is what most of these cabinets carry.
- Less than 10 percent self-discharge over 90 days - storable for 6 months at 25°C, or 10 months with an equalization charge, before a full recharge is required.

Where This Battery Is Used
- Traffic signal and intersection cabinets - battery backup units that sit in a roadside enclosure and see the full outdoor swing every year.
- Telecom pedestals and small outdoor nodes - the 7 Ah class of block that backs a fiber node or a small cell radio through a short outage.
- Gate operators, access control and remote sensors - unheated equipment where a standard indoor UPS block is being asked to do a job it was not rated for.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the extreme temperature rating change about the battery?
The discharge envelope. CSB rates this block to deliver from -20°C to 50°C where its standard UPS and HRL ranges are rated from -15°C. The plates, the electrolyte fill and the case are all the same AGM construction, so it charges on the same 13.5 to 13.8 volt float window and behaves like any other CSB block indoors. What you are paying for is the guarantee that it will still deliver its rated current at the bottom of a cold night, which a block rated to -15°C does not promise.
Is 7.20 Ah the same as the 7.2 on the label?
Yes. The XTV range is badged by its 20 hour capacity, so the part number and the datasheet agree to the decimal on this block. That is unlike CSB's HR and HRL ranges, which are badged by watts per cell and can sit either side of the measured figure. If you are replacing a 7.2 Ah block from another maker, compare the 20 hour rating at 1.75 volts per cell on both sheets, because some manufacturers quote the 10 hour or 5 hour figure and the number looks smaller than it is.
Can it be charged in the cold?
Down to -20°C, and the charge and storage limit at the top is 40°C rather than the 50°C discharge ceiling. Lead acid chemistry accepts charge slowly when it is cold, so a cabinet that spends the winter near the bottom of the range will recover from an outage more slowly than the datasheet's room temperature curves suggest. A temperature compensated charger helps here; the datasheet does not publish a compensation coefficient for this part, so the charger's own setting applies.
Why choose this over the XTV1285F2 in the same case?
Cost and availability, when 7.2 Ah covers the load. The two share a case, a terminal and a weight within two tenths of a pound, and both are stock items at CSB. The 1285 carries about 22 percent more capacity and about 24 percent more 15 minute power for the same footprint. If the drawing calls for 7.2 Ah, this is the exact match. If the runtime calculation is tight, the 1285 buys margin without changing the cabinet layout.
Tell a specialist how many cabinets, what the coldest site sees in January and how long the backup has to carry. The XTV range separates from the standard blocks on the low temperature figure. Size against that number.
