NorthStar NSB40FT HT RED Pure Lead - High Temp Battery
NorthStar NSB40FT HT RED Pure Lead - High Temp Battery
NorthStar NSB40FT HT RED Battery - 12V 40Ah Pure Lead AGM, Front Terminal
Warranty
Small Cabinet, Full HT Build
- 40 Ah at the 10-hour rate - to 1.80 volts per cell at 25°C, the rate telecom reserve is specified on.
- 1,500 amps short-circuit current - at approximately 5.2 milliohms internal resistance, for DC-side protection sizing on a small plant.
- Four blocks make 48 volts in a shallow shelf - at 9.84 inches deep, a string of four fits an enclosure that will not take the 22-inch front-terminal format.
- -40°F to 149°F operating range - with shelf life up to 24 months before a freshening charge is due.
- Non-hazardous for ground, sea and air - flame retardant to UL 94 V-0 with an LOI of at least 28 percent, and light enough to fly economically.

Where This Battery Is Used
- Small cell and pole-mount enclosures - the shallow cabinets that cannot take a 22-inch front-terminal block but still run hot enough to need the HT build.
- Remote monitoring and telemetry cabinets - low-load sites where a 40 Ah string carries the equipment through an outage and floats the rest of the year.
- Alarm, security and surveillance systems - occupied-building reserves where the UL 94 V-0 case rating is part of the specification.
- Intelligent transportation cabinets - roadside controllers and signal cabinets that sit in full sun through a summer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the terminal M6 or M8?
M6. NorthStar's per-model sheet for the NSB40FT HT RED gives a female M6 by 1.0 insert, and the same is true of the NSB40FT BLUE+ in the identical case. An earlier version of this listing published M8 by 1.25, which is the thread the larger HT RED blocks from the 92FT up use, and it has been corrected here. If you are reusing interconnects from a 92FT or larger string they will not thread into this block, so state the hardware you need on the quote and it will be supplied to match.
What does the UL 94 V-0 rating on the case mean?
It is the flammability class of the case material. In the UL 94 vertical burn test, a V-0 material stops burning within 10 seconds after the flame is removed and drops no flaming particles, the best of the three V ratings. The sheet also gives a limiting oxygen index of at least 28%, meaning the material needs an atmosphere of at least 28% oxygen to keep burning, against about 21% in normal air. For a small enclosure mounted inside a building or on a pole beside other equipment, that is the rating a fire or building reviewer will look for.
Can the NSB40FT HT RED replace a standard NSB40FT?
Physically yes, and in a hot cabinet it is the better choice. The two share a case at 250 by 97 by 208 mm, the same 40 Ah capacity and the same M6 terminal, so the swap is like for like on the shelf. The difference is in heat and warranty: the HT build publishes sustained operation at 40°C (104°F) and carries a four-year EnerSys warranty to the three on standard RED. Where the cabinet runs warm, the HT build is the one drawn for it.
How long can it sit in stores before installation?
NorthStar gives a shelf life of up to 24 months. Check the open circuit voltage on receipt and log it, check it again before installation, and give the block a freshening charge if it has fallen or if it has been on the shelf close to that limit. Warm storage shortens the interval. A block that has sat past it without a charge needs attention before it goes into service, so if the install date is uncertain ask the specialist to put a commissioning charge recommendation on the quote.
Send the enclosure dimensions, the string voltage, the quantity and your delivery ZIP. A specialist confirms the 9.84 by 3.82 inch footprint against the enclosure, checks the M6 hardware, and quotes the set with lead time and freight in writing.
