NorthStar NSB170FT HT RED - Pure Lead - Battery 12V 174AH
NorthStar NSB170FT HT RED - Pure Lead - Battery 12V 174AH
NorthStar NSB170FT HT RED Battery - 12V 174Ah Pure Lead AGM, Front Terminal
Warranty
The Same Case as the 190FT, One Step Down
- 174 Ah at the 10-hour rate - to 1.80 volts per cell at 25°C, the rate telecom reserve is specified on.
- 2.6 milliohms, 6,000 amps short circuit - thin plate pure lead resistance, and the figure DC-side protection is coordinated against.
- 121 lbs on a 22 inch footprint - eleven pounds lighter than the 190FT in the same case, which matters when four go onto a high shelf.
- -40°F to 149°F operating range - with shelf life up to 24 months before a freshening charge is due.
- Non-hazardous for ground, sea and air - flame retardant to UL 94 V-0 with an LOI of at least 28 percent.

Where This Battery Is Used
- Outdoor and unconditioned telecom cabinets - macro cell sites and remote huts running warmer than a standard AGM is warranted for, which is the case the HT build was drawn for.
- Central offices and inside plant - -48 volt strings on 23-inch shelves, with every connection made from the aisle side.
- Public safety and transportation systems - alarm, surveillance and intelligent transportation reserves that have to hold through a summer peak without a service visit.
- Medical standby and microgrid plant - installations whose specification names the 15-year design life and the EUROBAT classification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a part called 170FT publish 174 Ah?
Because the part number is a family designation and the capacity is a measured figure. NorthStar's per-model sheet for the NSB170FT HT RED gives 174 Ah at the 10-hour rate to 1.80 volts per cell at 25°C, and the standard NSB170FT RED gives 170 Ah in the same nominal slot. Size your reserve on the published figure for the part you are buying. If a specification names 170 Ah as a minimum, this block clears it.
How does the NSB170FT HT behave at -40°F?
It is rated to operate there, since the per-model sheet gives -40°F to 149°F, but cold changes what the block delivers. Available capacity falls as the electrolyte cools, and recharge after an outage takes longer, so a string sized at 77°F can come up short in a northern winter. Keep the string on float and fully charged, because a charged lead-acid battery resists freezing far better than a discharged one. For a cold site, send the lowest cabinet temperature with your quote request and a specialist will size the string for that temperature.
Can I mix NSB170FT HT and NSB190FT HT on the same shelf?
On the same shelf yes, in the same series string no. The two share a case, a terminal and a footprint, so they physically interchange and a cabinet can hold both. In a series string every block passes the same current, so a 174 Ah block and a 190 Ah block will not share the load evenly and the smaller one sets the string's reserve while working harder than it should. Build each string from one part number. If you are extending a plant, add a parallel string rather than filling gaps in an existing one.
HT RED or standard RED for my site?
Measure the cabinet rather than the outside air. Both are thin plate pure lead front-terminal blocks with a 15-year design life at 20°C and a -40°C to +65°C operating range. The HT build adds sustained operation at 40°C (104°F), and EnerSys warrants it for four years; standard RED carries three. In a hot climate the inside of an unconditioned cabinet climbs well past the outside air on a sunny afternoon, the heat the HT build is drawn for.
Send the plant load, the reserve target, the quantity and your delivery ZIP. A specialist confirms the string count against the published capacity, checks the 22.0 by 4.92 inch footprint against the cabinet, and quotes the set with lead time and freight in writing.
