CSB XPL2200 Battery - 12V 52 Ah Extreme Power Long Life AGM

The XPL2200 is the entry point to CSB's Extreme Power range, a 12 volt 52 Ah block rated 201 watts per cell at the 15 minute rate to 1.67 volts per cell at 25°C. It shares its 8.98 by 5.45 inch case with the HRL12200W, so it drops onto the same shelf, and what the swap buys is pure lead plate construction and a longer manufacturer term. The 2200 in the name is a nominal figure for the whole block at the 5 minute rate: six cells at 366 watts each come to 2,196 watts, so the badge is close but the per-cell number is what a sizing sheet takes. The block runs 36.70 lbs with 5.60 milliohms of internal resistance and a 500 amp discharge ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the XPL2200 a 2200 watt battery?

Near enough to be useful, and not exact. CSB publishes 366 watts per cell at the 5 minute rate, and six cells come to 2,196 watts for the block, which is where the 2200 comes from. At the 15 minute rate the figure is 201 watts per cell, or about 1,206 watts for the block. Size from the per-cell number at the rate your cabinet requires, because the badge is a 5 minute nominal and most UPS sizing runs on 15.

What does the XPL2200 give me over an HRL12200W?

Same case, same shelf, same terminal hardware. The XPL is built on pure lead plates, carries a 5 year CSB term against the HRL's 4, and delivers 201 watts per cell at 15 minutes against 218. So it is a slightly lower power rating for a longer warranty and a different plate construction. If the string is power-limited the HRL is the better fit; if it is life-limited the XPL is.

How many do I need for a 48 volt string?

Four in series gives a nominal 48 volts. What decides the count beyond that is the runtime, not the voltage: work out the watts per cell your load needs at your required ride-through, then read across the 15 minute or 5 minute column. Send the load and the minutes and a specialist does that arithmetic in writing before you order.

Will my existing charger suit it?

Check two numbers. Float has to sit in the 13.5 to 13.8 VDC per battery band at 25°C, and charge current must stay at or under 18.30 amps. A rectifier fixed above 13.8 volts is the most common reason a long life block never reaches its design life, so tell us the setting before you order rather than after.
