CSB HRL12150WG Battery - 12V 156W Per Cell High Rate Long Life AGM

The HRL12150WG delivers 156 watts per cell at the 15 minute rate to 1.67 volts per cell at 25°C, which is 936 watts across the block, and it is the only part in CSB's High Rate Long Life range at this size rated for a ten year design life. That figure is the reason to specify it. Everything smaller in the HRL band, the 1280W and the 12110WFR included, is rated to eight years and carries a two year warranty; this block steps into the mid-to-large band where CSB gives four. The WG in the part number is a variant designation rather than a different battery: CSB publishes one discharge table for the HRL12150W and the HRL12150WG, so the electrical figures on this page are the same ones the plain W carries. What separates this size in practice is the terminal, an I2 threaded insert taking an M6 bolt where the smaller HRL blocks use a push-on tab. The block runs 26.34 lbs in a group U1 case 7.70 by 5.12 inches standing 6.77 inches tall, with 7.30 milliohms of internal resistance and 1,116 amps of short circuit current.

What is the difference between the HRL12150W and the HRL12150WG?

Electrically, nothing that CSB publishes. One discharge table covers both part numbers, so the watts per cell, the currents, the resistance and the short circuit figure are identical. The G is a variant designation. We list them as two products because they are ordered as two part numbers and a specification often names one or the other, so quoting the wrong suffix causes a rejected submittal. Send the part number printed on the block coming out and a specialist matches it exactly.

Why does this carry four years when the HRL1280W carries two?

CSB splits the HRL range into two warranty bands and this is where the line falls. The small band runs 634WF2, 1210WF2FR, 1225WF2FR, 1234WF2FR, 1280W and 12110WFR at two years, made in Vietnam. The mid-to-large band starts here at 12150WGFR and runs through 12540WFR at four years, made in Taiwan. Design life moves with it, eight years below the line and ten above. Size is not what changes; the band is.

Can it go where a group U1 flooded battery sits now?

Dimensionally yes, and the duty is the question worth asking instead. This is a sealed AGM built for high rate discharge and permanent float, so it wants a charger holding 13.5 to 13.8 volts and it is not intended for repeated deep cycling. A flooded U1 in a wheelchair or a mower is doing a different job. Where the U1 came out of a UPS or a switchgear cabinet, this is the right family. Why is the maximum discharge current lower than on the smaller HRL1280W?

Because that ceiling is set by the terminal and the plate group rather than by how much energy the block holds. CSB rates the HRL1280W at 300 amps and this larger part at 225. The figures that do scale with size are the sustained ones: 156 watts per cell against 80.83, 1,116 amps of short circuit current against 723, and 7.30 milliohms against 9.00. Size a string on the watts column and check the discharge ceiling separately against your worst case inrush.
