Deka Fahrenheit HT170ET Battery - 12V 185 Ah Heat Tolerant AGM

The HT170ET is the 185 ampere-hour block in Deka's Fahrenheit line, rated at the 8-hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell at 77°F, in a 22.13 by 4.97 by 12.58 inch front-access THT case at 128 lbs. It sits between the HT150ET and the HT200ET, close to the larger block in capacity and 23 lbs lighter, and it carries the Fahrenheit heat-management set East Penn specifies for hot sites: the Helios additive, the Microcat catalyst and TempX grid alloy on plates of over 98 percent pure lead. East Penn publishes a 12-year float design life for the line, and a discharge table for this block that runs out to the 24-hour rate.

Warranty

Warranty. East Penn publishes a 6-year term at 77°F for the Fahrenheit HT line. Design life is a separate figure: 12 years in float applications at 77°F on Form 2236. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

185 Ah for the Hot Site

185 Ah at the 8-hour rate
20.5 amps for eight hours, 36.6 amps for four hours, or 108 amps for one hour, to 1.75 VPC at 77°F on East Penn's Form 2236 table.
Table to the 24-hour rate
9.1 amps for 20 hours and 7.7 amps for 24 hours, published figures for the long-reserve sizing a remote site needs.
128 lbs in the 4.97 inch case
The standard front-access shelf cut, 12.58 inches tall; the HT200ET in the same width weighs 151 lbs and stands 12.74.
  • Helios additive - reduces float current by up to 75 percent per East Penn, limiting the internal heating that shortens VRLA life in a warm cabinet.
  • Microcat catalyst - lowers float current and mitigates thermal buildup and cell dryout.
  • TempX alloy grids - corrosion resistance at temperature extremes on a greater than 98 percent pure lead positive.
  • THT case compound - heat-resistant plastic that holds plate compression, UL 94 V-0 with a limiting oxygen index above 39 percent.
  • Standards on the flyer - UL 1973 certification for energy storage, UL recognition requirements, IEEE recommended practices; IPF plate forming; epoxy-sealed posts and 100 percent factory-tested valves.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • Unconditioned outdoor cabinets with long reserve requirements - 48V strings sized on the 8-hour or 20-hour rate where the enclosure runs hot.
  • Remote huts and shelters - sites where a standard block has aged out early and the replacement should tolerate the room it lives in.
  • Hot-climate front-access shelves - the 4.97 inch shelf cut shared with the standard Unigy I front-terminal blocks.

Ordering and Freight

The HT170ET sells in minimum quantities of four. At 128 lbs per unit a set ships freight pre-paid by LTL to commercial addresses; a residential or limited-access delivery adds $100, which is the liftgate and access charge the carrier bills us. Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date, and a specialist returns a written quote with volume pricing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the HT170ET a 170 Ah battery?

East Penn's current flyer, Form 2236, rates it at 185 ampere-hours at the 8-hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell at 77°F. The 170 is the model designation. Figures other than 185 circulate for this part on older sheets; the current East Penn flyer governs, and 185 Ah is the number to size against.

HT170ET or HT200ET: is the extra 5 Ah worth the weight?

The two are close in capacity, 185 against 190 Ah at the 8-hour rate, and both are Fahrenheit blocks with the same term and design life. The HT170ET is 23 lbs lighter per block, 128 against 151, and 0.16 inches shorter. On a four-block string that is 92 lbs less on the shelf and on the freight bill for a capacity difference of under three percent. If the reserve calculation clears at 185 Ah, the HT170ET is the lighter answer; if the plant standard names the HT200ET, match it.

How does the HT170ET compare with the standard 12AVR170ET?

Same 4.97 inch front-access shelf cut and nearly the same height, but different jobs. The 12AVR170ET is a standard Unigy I block rated 170 Ah with a 10-year design life and a 4-year East Penn term, at 119 lbs. The HT170ET is the Fahrenheit build, 185 Ah, 12-year design life, 6-year term at 77°F, at 128 lbs, with the heat-management chemistry the standard block does not carry. In a conditioned room buy the 12AVR170ET; in a cabinet that runs hot, the HT170ET is the block built for it.

How long will a 48V HT170ET string hold a 9 amp load?

About 20 hours. East Penn's table gives 9.1 amps for 20 hours to 1.75 volts per cell at 77°F, and 7.7 amps for 24 hours. A 48V string of four blocks in series delivers the same current as one block, so a steady 9 amp plant load runs to the 20-hour point before the string reaches end voltage. Send the load and the reserve requirement and a specialist reads the exact figure from the published table.

Smaller Fahrenheit blockThe Deka Fahrenheit HT150ET carries 149 Ah at the 8-hour rate in the same 4.97 inch front-access case at 103 lbs.
