Deka Unigy 12AVR90 Battery - 12V 82.1 Ah Top Terminal Telecom AGM

The 12AVR90 sits between the 12AVR75 and the 12AVR100 in Deka's Unigy I line: 12V, 82.1 ampere-hours at the 8-hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell, top terminals, 12.01 by 6.56 by 8.24 inches, 64.5 lbs. It shares the 8.24 inch height of the 12AVR75, so the two fit the same shelf, and the extra 1.8 inches of length buys about 16 percent more reserve. East Penn builds it on a greater than 98 percent pure lead positive grid with IPF plate forming, in a UL 94 V-0 polypropylene case, for float service in telecom plant.

Warranty

Warranty. East Penn's term on this Unigy I top terminal model is 1 year under E.P.M. Form 0985. Design life is a separate figure: 10 years in float applications at 77°F is East Penn's published estimate. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

What the Flyer Specifies

82.1 Ah at the 8-hour rate
10.3 amps for eight hours, 18.7 amps for four hours, or 57.3 amps for one hour, all to 1.75 VPC at 77°F on East Penn's Form 0384 table.
Same shelf height as the 12AVR75
8.24 inches tall on a 6.56 inch width. A cabinet tray cut for the smaller block takes this one if it has 12.01 inches of length.
Tin-calcium positive alloy
Pure lead with tin and calcium in the positive grid resists the grid corrosion that ends a float battery's life early, the mechanism behind the 10-year design life.
  • IPF plate technology - East Penn forms each plate individually, which is why the flyer can guarantee 100 percent initial string capacity when tested to IEEE 1188.
  • Leak-tested construction - heat-sealed case and cover, epoxy-sealed posts, and self-sealing valves with flame arrestors, each 100 percent tested at the factory.
  • Standards named by East Penn - designed to meet GR-4228, meets or exceeds IEEE recommended practices, UL recognition, UL 1973 certification for energy storage.
  • Relay rack fit - a 48V string of four fits a 23-inch relay rack tray per the flyer.
  • Charge current window - 15.5 amps maximum and 4.7 amps minimum per block, from the Unigy I installation manual.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • 48V reserve strings at mid-sized remote sites - four blocks in series where a 70 Ah string runs short and a 100 Ah string does not fit the tray.
  • Relay rack trays - the 23-inch tray fit East Penn calls out on the flyer.
  • Controls and signaling float loads - applications sized in ampere-hours over hours, on a maintained float charge.

Ordering and Freight

The 12AVR90 sells in minimum quantities of four. At 64.5 lbs per unit a set ships freight pre-paid by LTL to commercial addresses; a residential or limited-access delivery adds $100, which is the liftgate and access charge the carrier bills us. Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date, and a specialist returns a written quote with volume pricing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 12AVR90 a 90 Ah battery?

East Penn rates it at 82.1 ampere-hours at the 8-hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell at 77°F. The 90 is the model designation. Size the string on 82.1 Ah, and if the reserve calculation needs a true 90 or more, the 12AVR100 at 94.1 Ah is the next block in the line.

Will the 12AVR90 fit where a 12AVR75 sits?

In height and width, yes: both are 8.24 inches tall and 6.56 inches wide. The 12AVR90 is 1.81 inches longer at 12.01 inches, so check the tray length and the spacing between blocks before ordering. Weight goes from 54 to 64.5 lbs per block, which most shelves rated for the smaller unit carry without trouble, but confirm the shelf rating if it is stacked.

What float voltage does the 12AVR90 want?

13.50 volts per battery at 77°F, with an acceptable band of 13.42 to 13.57 volts, which is 2.25 volts per cell. The Unigy I manual publishes a temperature compensation chart around that figure, dropping the float setting as the room warms. A plant held above the band shortens the life of every block on it; a plant held below it undercharges the string. Set it to the chart and record the setting.

Why does East Penn publish a minimum charge current?

Because a rectifier plant shared across strings can starve one of them. The Unigy I manual sets 4.7 amps as the minimum and 15.5 amps as the maximum charge current for the 12AVR90. Keeping recharge inside that window returns the block to full charge after an outage without overheating it, and it is one of the settings a specialist confirms with you when a new string goes onto an existing plant.

Next block up the lineThe Unigy 12AVR100 carries 94.1 Ah at the 8-hour rate on the same top-terminal, 1-year tier.
