About the Power Wheels 12V battery

This is the grey 12-volt battery that powers the bigger Power Wheels rides: the Jeep Wrangler, Mustang, Cadillac Escalade, Ford F-150, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki Brute Force, and more than 70 other full-size models. If your child's ride-on uses the grey battery, this is the one you want.

On a full charge, you can expect about 45 minutes to an hour of playtime. How long you actually get comes down to the little things: how heavy the rider is, whether they're on grass or smooth pavement, and which speed setting they're using. A lighter child cruising the driveway will get the most time; a bigger kid racing across the lawn at top speed will get a little less. That's completely normal, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the battery.

At 12 Ah, it holds more charge than any other Power Wheels battery, so it's the one to choose when you want the longest stretch of play between charges.

How to install your replacement battery

Four steps. No tools beyond what came with the toy.

1. Open the battery compartment on your Power Wheels. On most models it's under the hood or seat. If you're unsure, check your toy's manual.
2. Disconnect the old battery by pulling apart the connector. Do not pull on the wires.
3. Lift the old battery out. Keep it for recycling. Most auto parts stores take SLA batteries at no charge.
4. Place the new battery in the same orientation and reconnect the connector. It only fits one way, so don't force it.

How to make this battery last 3 to 4 years

Power Wheels batteries are designed for 3 to 4 years of service. Most parents get 1 or 2 years. The gap comes down to three habits: charging after every use, disconnecting the battery during off-season storage, and topping it off every two months in storage.
