Does the SS4HF replace the original Sportsman SS4?
Yes. The SS4HF is the high-frequency successor to the SS4 we sold for years under this same part number, DPSS4. It is roughly half the weight, supports 12V through 48V systems instead of 12V only, and adds a selectable charge profile on every bank. The original handled wet cell and AGM batteries; the SS4HF adds lithium.
How does it charge a 36V or 48V trolling motor system?
Batteries wired in series still charge as individual 12V batteries. A 36V motor runs on three batteries, so three banks handle the string and the fourth covers your cranking battery. A 48V string uses all four banks, each watching its own battery.
Can I mix lithium and lead-acid batteries on the same charger?
Yes, and that is the point of per-bank selection. Set each bank to match what is wired to it. The lithium profile works with most 12V LiFePO4 marine batteries; send us your battery model before ordering and we will confirm it is on the approved list.
What do the LED indicators show?
Each bank displays its percent charged as it works, so you can see which battery is done and which is still taking current. If a fault comes up, the same LEDs flash a diagnostic code you can look up in the manual instead of guessing.
