Deltran Battery Tender Plus 022-0197 - 8V 1.25A Automatic Battery Charger

The Battery Tender 022-0197 is an 8 volt battery charger: 1.25 amps into a single 8V lead-acid battery of 14 to 80 amp-hours, the format wired six in a row in many 48V golf carts and found in utility carts, floor scrubbers, and pallet jacks. A pack charger treats the string as one unit and cannot tell that battery number four is lagging behind the other five. This charger clips to one battery and brings it to its own full charge, which is how you rescue a weak battery before it drags the pack down, and how a cart's batteries survive a winter in the barn. Four stages, temperature compensated, float at the end.

Warranty

Warranty. Deltran's 5-year limited warranty applies to the 8V Battery Tender 022-0197. Ask and we will include the terms in writing with your order.

Built for Individual 8V Batteries

Sees one battery, not the pack
Clip it across a single 8V battery's posts and the charger reads that battery alone. The other five in the string are outside the circuit.
Bulk, absorption, float
1.25 amps until the battery nears full, a tapered finish, then float voltage held for as long as the clips stay on.
Adjusts to the shed
Charge voltage rises in a cold storage barn and falls in a summer cart shed, tracking what lead-acid plates need at each temperature.
  • Spark-proof - no output until it confirms polarity and a solid connection, which you will appreciate leaning over a bank of batteries under a seat
  • Reverse polarity protection - automatic shutdown if the clips are swapped
  • Short-circuit protection - automatic shutdown on a fault
  • Output holds under load - if battery voltage drops while connected, full output resumes rather than tapering away
  • ETL and CETL certified; listed in the California Appliance Efficiency Database
  • 12 ft output cord with alligator clips, a ring-terminal quick disconnect, and a two-color status LED

Ordering and Shipping

Ships parcel, free on orders over $75. To float every battery in a 48V cart at once you need six of these, or the cart's pack charger for the string plus one of these for the straggler. Course and fleet quantities: send the number of batteries and your delivery ZIP and a specialist returns a written quote in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Deltran warrant the 8V charger 022-0197?

Five years, limited. File the receipt with the cart's service records; if a charger fails, contact us and we will get the claim moving with Deltran.

Can one 8V charger maintain a whole 48V golf cart pack?

Not at once. It charges the single battery it is clipped to. Floating the whole string takes one charger per battery or the cart's own pack charger; where this unit earns its keep is bringing up the one battery that reads low after the pack charger says it is done.

Do I need to disconnect the battery from the cart to charge it?

No. Unplug the cart's onboard charger and turn the key off, then clip red to the positive post and black to the negative post of the one battery you want to charge, leaving the pack cables in place. The charger only sees that battery. Look the battery tops over for corrosion while you are in there.

Is the 8V Battery Tender also a 12V charger?

No. The output is fixed at 8 volts, and a 12V battery would never reach full charge on it. Deltran makes 6V and 12V versions of this charger and a 6V/12V selectable Power Tender, but there is no 8V/12V switch.

Fleet of carts headed into storage?
