Deka Unigy HR5500 Battery - 12V 550 WPC High Rate UPS AGM

The HR5500 is the highest-rated top-terminal block in the Deka Unigy High Rate range we list: 12V, 550 watts per cell at the 15-minute rate to 1.67 volts per cell, in a 13.46 by 6.84 by 11.21 inch case at 105.5 lbs. East Penn puts 550 watts per cell into the same footprint as the 475 watt 31HR5000, so a cabinet designed around that case can be stepped up in rating without a tray change. The construction is the Unigy High Rate standard: greater than 98 percent pure lead tin-calcium positive grid, IPF plate forming, epoxy-sealed quarter-inch 20 threaded inserts on the cover, UL 94 V-0 polypropylene case.

Warranty

Warranty. East Penn's term on the Unigy High Rate top terminal models is 3 years under E.P.M. Form 0986. Design life is a separate figure: 10 years in float applications at 77°F is East Penn's published estimate. Terms are confirmed in writing with your quote.

550 Watts, Top Terminals

550 watts per cell at 15 minutes
914 watts per cell at 5 minutes, 1,244 at 1 minute, 199 at 60 minutes, to 1.67 VPC at 77°F on East Penn's Form 1837 table.
Step-up in the 31HR5000 case
Same 13.46 by 6.84 by 11.21 inch footprint, 75 more watts per cell, 8.5 lbs more per block.
3.3 kW per block at 15 minutes
Six cells at 550 watts is 3,300 watts per block, so a 40-block string is 132 kW of battery output at the 15-minute rate before inverter losses.
  • Leak-tested AGM VRLA - case and cover heat sealed and 100 percent tested, epoxy-sealed posts, micro-porous glass mat separators, flame-arresting self-sealing valves.
  • UL 1973 certified - for energy storage applications; construction meets UL recognition requirements and IEEE recommended practices.
  • Flame-retardant case - polypropylene rated UL 94 V-0, limiting oxygen index above 28 percent, reinforced to resist bulging.
  • 13.50V float per battery - plus or minus 0.5 percent at 77°F, published range 13.42V to 13.57V.
  • Factory acceptance testing offered - an optional East Penn discharge at the 10-minute rate to 1.67 VPC with a formal report, worth pricing on a string this size.

Where This Battery Is Used

  • Large three-phase UPS strings - 32 to 40 blocks behind a UPS in the 100 kW class and up, sized on the 15-minute rate.
  • Data center and colocation battery rooms - top-post racks at 11.21 inches tall, serviced from above.
  • Industrial process ride-through - lines that need minutes of full power to shut down in order or to bridge to a generator.

Ordering and Freight

The HR5500 sells in minimum quantities of four. At 105.5 lbs per unit a string ships freight pre-paid by LTL to commercial addresses; a residential or limited-access delivery adds $100, which is the liftgate and access charge the carrier bills us. Send the quantity, your delivery ZIP and your requested-by date, and a specialist returns a written quote with volume pricing in 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a front-access version of the HR5500?

East Penn publishes an HR5500ET, a 550 watt per cell front-access block on Form 0773, which under Form 0986 would carry the 4-year front-access term. We do not list it as a stock page yet; if your cabinet needs front terminals at this rating, ask for it on the quote request and a specialist prices it from East Penn's document.

Can I put HR5500 blocks where 31HR5000 blocks were?

Physically, yes: the two share the 13.46 by 6.84 by 11.21 inch case and the top quarter-inch 20 inserts, so the tray and the intercell cables carry over. Confirm three things first: that the rack rating takes the extra 8.5 lbs per block, that the charger's current limit suits the new string, and that the UPS is set for the higher-rated battery. Replace the whole string at once rather than mixing the two ratings.

How long does an HR5500 string run at half its 15-minute load?

Read across the table. At 15 minutes the block gives 550 watts per cell; at 30 minutes it gives 345, and at 60 minutes 199, all to 1.67 VPC at 77°F. Runtime does not scale in a straight line with load: a block loaded at half its 15-minute rating, about 275 watts per cell, runs somewhere past 40 minutes on these figures, closer to three times the runtime than two. Send the actual load and a specialist reads the exact point from East Penn's data.

What does the string weigh?

At 105.5 lbs per block, a 40-block string is 4,220 lbs of battery, and a 32-block string 3,376 lbs, before racks and cabling. Floor loading and freight both start from that number. Our quote states the shipped weight and the pallet count so the receiving dock can plan for it.

Next rating up, front accessThe Unigy HR7000ET delivers 700 watts per cell at the 15-minute rate in a front-terminal case.
