Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a front-access version of the HR5500?
East Penn publishes an HR5500ET, a 550 watt per cell front-access block on Form 0773, which under Form 0986 would carry the 4-year front-access term. We do not list it as a stock page yet; if your cabinet needs front terminals at this rating, ask for it on the quote request and a specialist prices it from East Penn's document.
Can I put HR5500 blocks where 31HR5000 blocks were?
Physically, yes: the two share the 13.46 by 6.84 by 11.21 inch case and the top quarter-inch 20 inserts, so the tray and the intercell cables carry over. Confirm three things first: that the rack rating takes the extra 8.5 lbs per block, that the charger's current limit suits the new string, and that the UPS is set for the higher-rated battery. Replace the whole string at once rather than mixing the two ratings.
How long does an HR5500 string run at half its 15-minute load?
Read across the table. At 15 minutes the block gives 550 watts per cell; at 30 minutes it gives 345, and at 60 minutes 199, all to 1.67 VPC at 77°F. Runtime does not scale in a straight line with load: a block loaded at half its 15-minute rating, about 275 watts per cell, runs somewhere past 40 minutes on these figures, closer to three times the runtime than two. Send the actual load and a specialist reads the exact point from East Penn's data.
What does the string weigh?
At 105.5 lbs per block, a 40-block string is 4,220 lbs of battery, and a 32-block string 3,376 lbs, before racks and cabling. Floor loading and freight both start from that number. Our quote states the shipped weight and the pallet count so the receiving dock can plan for it.
