The Line's Largest Block
- Pure lead plate pair - greater than 98 percent pure lead tin-calcium positive with a pure lead calcium negative, formed by East Penn's IPF process.
- Guaranteed 100 percent initial string capacity - when tested in accordance with IEEE 1188, per the flyer.
- Standards on the flyer - designed to meet GR-4228, meets or exceeds IEEE recommended practices, UL recognition, UL 1973 certification for energy storage, and a 48V string fit in a 23-inch relay rack tray.
- EU battery regulation data published - Appendix G of the Unigy I manual lists round-trip efficiency of 80 percent, C8 discharge and C5 charge rates, and the 10-year design life for this block.
- Charge current window - 38.3 amps maximum and 11.5 amps minimum per block, from the same manual.

Where This Battery Is Used
- High-load 48V telecom plants - four blocks give 9.6 kWh per string where the DC load runs past what a 170 Ah block covers.
- Long-reserve outdoor cabinets - front-access service with eight hours or more of reserve at a modest load.
- Long-duration UPS float - installs specified in ampere-hours rather than the watts-per-cell figure of the High Rate series.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the 12AVR200ET have a different case material from the rest of the Unigy I line?
East Penn specifies its THT compound on this block, where the other Unigy I flyers list standard flame-retardant polypropylene. The published difference is the limiting oxygen index, above 39 percent against above 28 percent, with the same UL 94 V-0 rating. THT is also the compound East Penn uses on its Fahrenheit heat-tolerant line. The flyer does not state a reason for the choice, so treat it as a construction detail rather than a heat rating; the 12AVR200ET's ratings are still published at 77°F.
What is the kWh rating of a 12AVR200ET string?
2.4 kWh per block at the 8-hour rate, per Appendix G of East Penn's Unigy I manual, so a 48V string of four is 9.6 kWh and two strings are 19.2 kWh. The same appendix gives 49.5 watts per cell and an 80 percent energy round-trip efficiency. Those figures are published because the block crosses the 2 kWh threshold of the EU battery regulation, and they are the numbers an energy-storage specification will ask for.
How do the 12AVR170ET and the 12AVR200ET compare on the shelf?
Same 4.97 inch width, so both fit the front-access cut. The 12AVR200ET is 2.13 inches deeper at 24.30 inches and 0.14 inches taller at 12.74, and it weighs 150 lbs against 119. In return it gives 200 Ah against 170. If the shelf depth is the constraint, measure first; if the reserve requirement is the constraint, the 200 is the block.
What does 537 amps maximum discharge mean for my plant?
It is the ceiling East Penn sets for current drawn from one block to an end voltage of 10.50V. A telecom plant sized on the 8-hour rate draws a small fraction of that, so the limit matters mainly at a site where the load steps hard during an outage, or where the block is asked to feed a high-rate load it was not sized for. The 1-hour rate of 152 amps is the practical planning figure; if your worst-case load approaches it, say so on the quote request and a specialist will size the string count accordingly.
