Wattage

Power inverter wattage plays a key role in deciding which unit an application requires. Wattage specifications will determine what type and the overall number of devices that can be plugged in and drawing off a single inverter. Smaller watt inverters are normally used for charging laptops, cellular phones, televisions and even small kitchen appliances from a direct current (DC) battery source. Knowing which inverter to buy can take some thought to ensure that the desired applications meant to use the inverter are actually receiving the correct wattage.

Peak Watt Power

Another aspect to bear in mind when shopping for power inverters is the peak load power rate or peak watt power. This is typically measured as double the maximum continuous wattage for a power inverter unit. It allows for any extra or overload from drawing devices up to the peak watt number. Appliances or devices with motors, heating coils or inconsistent drawing watts will almost always peak at some point in their use.
