DEKA Unigy UPS 31HR5000 High Rate Series Battery
DEKA Unigy UPS 31HR5000 High Rate Series Battery
Deka Unigy 31HR5000 Battery - 12V 475 WPC High Rate UPS AGM
Warranty
475 Watts on the 13.46 Inch Footprint
- Sealed AGM VRLA - heat-sealed case and cover tested 100 percent against leaks, epoxy-sealed posts, micro-porous glass mat separators and flame-arresting self-sealing valves.
- Energy storage certification - UL 1973, with construction meeting UL recognition requirements and IEEE recommended practices.
- UL 94 V-0 polypropylene case - flame-retardant, limiting oxygen index above 28 percent, reinforced against bulging.
- Float window - 13.50V per battery at 77°F, plus or minus 0.5 percent, range 13.42V to 13.57V.
- Constant-power table to 1.60 VPC - six end voltages and nine discharge times on the flyer, so an unusual UPS end-voltage specification can be sized from East Penn's own figures.

Where This Battery Is Used
- Large three-phase UPS strings - 32 to 40 blocks in series where the sizing table calls for more than 420 watts per cell and the tray stands 11.21 inches tall.
- Data center and colocation ride-through - fifteen to thirty minutes of load to generator transfer.
- Switchgear and utility control - trip and close power on a maintained float, using the 983 watt 1-minute rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 31HR5000 and the HR5500?
Rating and weight, in the same case. The 31HR5000 is 475 watts per cell at 15 minutes and 97 lbs; the HR5500 is 550 watts per cell and 105.5 lbs, both 13.46 by 6.84 by 11.21 inches with top quarter-inch 20 inserts and both on East Penn's 3-year top-terminal term. If the string is sized on the 15-minute rate and the table lands under 475, the 31HR5000 saves the weight; if it lands between 475 and 550, order the HR5500.
Does the 31HR5000 replace an HR5000?
East Penn's current flyer, Form 2047 dated July 2025, lists the part as 31HR5000. If your existing string is labeled HR5000 without the prefix, send a photo of the label and the case dimensions and a specialist confirms the current equivalent against East Penn's documentation before quoting, rather than assuming the prefix is the only change.
How much power does a 40-block 31HR5000 string deliver for 15 minutes?
475 watts per cell times six cells is 2,850 watts per block, times 40 blocks is 114 kW at the 15-minute rate to 1.67 volts per cell at 77°F. At 30 minutes the string carries about 72 kW; at 60 minutes about 42 kW. Those figures are gross battery output before inverter losses, so apply your UPS manufacturer's efficiency figure to get the supported load.
Why is the 1-minute rating lower than on the HR4000?
Because the two blocks are built for different points on the curve. The HR4000 publishes 1,227 watts per cell at one minute and 143 at sixty; the 31HR5000 publishes 983 at one minute and 177 at sixty. The 31HR5000 carries more energy and delivers it more evenly across longer runtimes, while the HR4000 peaks harder over the first minutes. Match the block to the runtime your UPS is specified for rather than to the headline 15-minute number alone.
